I have quite a bit of accounting knowledge, and you definitely need that to get NetSuite’s accounting software set up. We needed a more sophisticated product than what the competitors were offering because we also need inventory management. We track inventory and manufacturing all the way from bottling, to corking, to the finished product. NetSuite was easier to implement than SAP or Oracle, but it was still challenging to implement. It’s flexible, but takes time to set up. And it doesn’t have the prettiest UI, but we like the functionality.
We’re currently using Domo. We were with RJMetrics, but it didn’t have the scalability that we needed. RJMetrics is great when you’re getting started; it has the right price and features that you need. But when your database gets really large, and you’re running many tables, it’s not scalable; at that point, you should move to something like Domo.
We’re using Braintree. It was key for us to have ownership of our data, and for it to be easily transferable. We also needed something at the right price that could support our subscription model, as well as store credit card numbers. Braintree offers all of these features, and gave us better pricing than Stripe. We also chose Braintree because of the easy PayPal integration.
Overall, we’re pretty happy with Zendesk. There haven’t been any major issues with them. Any time it goes down, it’s a nightmare for everyone, so we know it’s important. We like it much better than Desk.com.
The decision to use Google Drive was easy, especially because of the simple integration, and price, since we use Google Apps. It’s so much less expensive than Box. Box’s UI is easier to use than Google Drive, but the price of Google Drive is really hard to beat.
We use BambooHR as our ATS, as well as our employee file management system. We like it, but it’d be great if they had benefits administration as well.
I’m not a huge fan of the UI/UX of Maxwell Health. It’s definitely my least favorite of the tools we use for HR and payroll. We’re working on figuring out how to use only 2 systems (versus the current 3), so we’re trying to move benefits administration from Maxwell Health to Paylocity.
We use Paylocity for payroll, and for time-tracking at our warehouse. It’s enterprise-grade software, but is extremely customizable, with a lot of flexibility, which we like. But because of the flexibility and customizable nature, you have to know that you will need to set aside some time to implement it. The downside of having flexible systems is that you have to take the time to make them look nice, and do the work to make them work the way you want.
